Sarah's second book is the award-winning Walking with Bilbo: A Devotional Adventure through The Hobbit (Tyndale/thirsty? 2005). It explores teachable moments in The Hobbit, Tolkien’s prequel to The Lord of the Rings. In July 2005, Walking with Bilbo won the ►Logos Award for best youth book. If only Bilbo himself could have given a speech for the occasion! Details: While originally considered a children’s book, The Hobbit is now inseparable from The Lord of the Rings as a favorite for young adult Tolkien fans. In particular, fans are newly discovering it as a way to extend their experience in Middle-earth now that the movie hype is dying down. Meanwhile, many are earnestly hoping that a film version of The Hobbit will follow New Line Cinema’s blockbuster trilogy in the not-too-distant future. Even though Bilbo's character and his story are far more light-hearted than Frodo’s, the seeds of Tolkien's major literary and spiritual themes are there. An unexpected adventure, an unlikely hero, a journey over the Edge of the Wild: Bilbo sets out to find a treasure and discovers his true self along the way. While Walking with Frodo explores the nature of making choices (deception vs. honesty, bondage vs. freedom, etc.), Walking with Bilbo explores what it means to be chosen. When the adventure of faith comes knocking at your door, are you ready?
