Hello Friends and Family,

Finally: here’s my second e-newsletter after a nutty summer.

The news is GREAT: My book Walking with Frodo: A Devotional Journey through the Lord of the Rings, will hit stores October 1st—over six weeks earlier than expected! The preorder sales have been so good that Tyndale has scheduled a second print run before the book ever appears on the shelves. (Please feel free to join me in the Happy Dance.)

Now of course I need your help in emptying those shelves once they’re full, but I also could use your help in sales through my website. So here’s my suggestion: if you buy one book, buy it from your local Christian bookstore (if they’re not carrying it, ask that they do). If you buy two books, buy one from the store and one from my website (click here). You’ll get a signed copy that way, too!

Local book-signings are scheduled on the following Saturdays:

  • October 25th: Promises and Praises Christian Bookstore in Petoskey, 1-3 p.m.
  • November 22nd: Horizon Bookstore in Petoskey, 1-3 p.m.
  • December 6th: Rainbow Bookstore in Traverse City, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • December 13th: Lemstone Books in the Grand Traverse Mall in Traverse City, 12-2 p.m.
  • I hope to make connections with other local bookstores as well.

Look for a feature on The Lord of the Rings in the Nov/Dec issue of Relevant magazine (a new, cutting-edge publication for Gen-Xers) in which I am interviewed. I’ll also have my own little column speculating about the third movie. For info on Relevant, visit www.relevantmagazine.com.

The book was mentioned in Publisher’s Weekly in an August article on young adult trends in Christian publishing. Walking with Frodo very likely will be reviewed in both Group magazine and Youth Worker Journal, for those in youth ministry.

Updates on my website (www.saraharthur.com) include:

  • A brief excerpt from the book
  • Selected articles on teens, Tolkien, and The Lord of the Rings
  • Selected poetry, some of which has been published in recent issues of The Penwood Review and Time of Singing
  • Updated speaking topics. I’d love to share with your school, library, bookstore, or church group!

For all of you praying types, please pray for me over the next few months. It’s going to be a wild ride in which the voice and guidance of God could very easily be lost.

Blessings! Sarah
