Dear Friends, Family, & Fellow LOTR-junkies:
Greetings to you during this Easter season. How weary this
world is, how eternally dark without the hope of the resurrection…He is
risen, indeed!
Here are some quick updates on the writing front:
- I’ll be the guest speaker for an ecumenical "FUSE"
high school youth event in Petoskey, Michigan on Sunday, April 18 at 7
p.m. at
►Petoskey
United Methodist Church.
- My next book-signings will take place during the
Winsome Women Retreats at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, May 18-21.
I’ll be assisting with the music team during that week; then in 2005
I’ll be one of the seminar leaders. (It’s a tough job, but someone’s got
to do it!)
- Don’t forget about Walking with Frodo for
graduation gifts! It would also make a great informal summer study for
youth small groups. Signed copies and group discounts are available
through my website
►www.saraharthur.com.
- European readers can look for the German translation,
entitled Unterwegs mit Frodo, at
►www.gerth.de;
it’s already in its second printing.
- I’m now working full-time on Walking with Bilbo: A
Devotional Journey through The Hobbit. For those who think The
Hobbit is just for kids: THINK AGAIN! The seeds of Tolkien’s major
literary and spiritual themes take root in this wonderful story,
eventually coming to flower and fruit in LOTR.
►Walking
with Bilbo is slated for release in January 2005.
- I’ve completed my job as contract editor for
►LinC,
a weekly youth curriculum of the United Methodist Publishing House based
on current events. It was a great experience! I’ll still be writing for
the team occasionally.
- I’ve written two resources in a series for High
School Sunday School classes: "Thinking Theologically About Money," and
"Thinking Theologically About Pop Culture." Both are now available
through
►Cokesbury.
The 6-week series teaches critical thinking skills in assessing an issue
from a godly perspective: through the filters of Scripture, Experience,
Reason, and Tradition. ►www.ileadyouth.com
- Also available through Cokesbury is my small group
resource on ►Prayer,
in the 20/30 series (for young adults in their 20s and 30s). This is
great for campus ministries and summer study groups.
- Look for my illustrations in the Spring 2004 issue of
the poetry journal Time of Singing. We’ll also post the
illustrations on my website.
As I said last month, I’ll be attending the Calvin
College ►Festival
of Faith & Writing April 22-25. Let me know if you’ll be there; I’d
love to touch base! After that I’ll be gone most of the month of May for
vacation and conferences, but we’ll make sure there’s someone to ship your
orders, particularly for graduation gifts.
Blessings,
